LAS -- The BYU women's golf team ended a three-week layoff Monday by opening up at the Las Vegas Founders Collegiate Showdown against some of the nation's best teams.
The Cougars are tied for 12th place in the 16-team field after shooting a first-round 304 (+16). Junior Rachel Newren is tied for 15th place after shooting an even-par 72.
BYU is joined by 10 teams currently in Golfweek's Top 30, including three of the top six in No. 2 UCLA, No. 4 Pepperdine and No. 6 Arkansas. The Cougars are ranked No. 33.
BYU will play the second round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament Tuesday. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
