QUESTION: What was one of your favorite dates before you were married?

ANSWER: Some of my friends were going water skiing to Lake Mead. I was nervous because I didn't know how well Dave could ski. He ended up getting beach started, and my friends and I were all really impressed. He neglected to tell me he had grown up waterskiing his whole life.

We went to dinner once in Las Vegas with Bruce Hurst and Holly Barton (Hurst), and Holly and I asked to get ice cream. They were poor college kids and were out of money. They were looking in the pay phone returns for change and on the floor of the car to find enough money. We found enough to buy only one cone. As it turned out, we both ended up marrying them.

(Bruce Hurst a pitcher of Boston Red Sox Fame who played in the Majors from 1980-94, was playing Triple-A baseball and came back to play one year at Dixie with Dave during Dave's sophomore year. They were roommates on road trips and became good friends. Rose also played baseball for Dixie.).

QUESTION: What's Dave's favorite meal for you to prepare for him?

ANSWER: It's probably what his son, Garrett, prepares for him. Garrett is a great cook. He gets out on the grill and does grilled steaks and garlic mashed potatoes. I'm not the gourmet cook that Garrett is. He won a state competition and went to nationals in high school for his cooking.

Dave likes a good old-fashioned Sunday roast. His mom cooked that, and I've tried to keep that tradition going for him.

QUESTION: Has Dave ever diagramed a basketball play for you on a napkin?

ANSWER: I laugh, because we recently went out with some friends to Macaroni Grill and our friends were asking about how to run plays and Dave started diagramming plays on the white paper. I wonder what the waiter was thinking when they came to clean up and saw all the plays drawn out everywhere. He has done plays like that on napkins when we are out to eat. I don't really understand all the plays so he's been good to try and help me understand them better.

QUESTION: What foreign countries have you and Dave visited?

ANSWER: We went to Japan when Dave was playing for Houston. Dave was the only married player on the team, and they were playing in a tournament in Tokyo. It was an amazing experience. It was the first time I had ever been to a foreign country. Dave's not much of a touristy traveler because he has to travel so much for his job. I think he likes to stay home. Most of the other trips we have been on have been part of traveling with the basketball team. We have been to England, Italy, Croatia and Australia. It was nice to go to England because that is where Dave served his mission. Dave has also taken our family to the Bahamas and Cancun. For the most part, he really likes to stay at home.

QUESTION: What's the biggest difference between being a head coach's wife on the Division I level compared to junior college and high school?

ANSWER: With Dave, there is absolutely no difference. He wants to win at every level he's ever coached at. He approaches every job with the same intensity and the same work ethic. I know it sounds clichý but I really don't see any difference. He just doesn't like to lose.

QUESTION: Tell us how Dave interacts with his granddaughter?

ANSWER: He's a big softy. He's always been really great. He's always been a great father, and I knew he'd be a great grandfather. He really likes it now that Annie is more interactive. He loved watching her pull things off the Christmas tree. Annie is the first person that gets the kiss and the hug. Some of the rest of us can get a bit jealous of that.

QUESTION: Name as many of Dave's college teammates as you can?

ANSWER: Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, Alvin Franklin, Benny Anders, Michael Young, Larry Micheaux, the Bunce brothers (David and Dan), and Reid Gettys were some of his Houston guys.

Craig Hammer, Bruce Hurst, Tom Hansen and Eric Slaymaker were some of his Dixie teammates, but now you are pushing me.

Some of his favorite teammates were Bruce Hurst at Dixie. They also had baseball in common. Craig Hammer's wife and I were really good friends. We were Rebelettes together. He's now a principal at Dixie High. At Houston, Reid Gettys and Dave were roommates. He's now an attorney in Houston. They talk on the phone quite often to this day. They have been really good friends for all these years.

It's neat that so many of his old teammates called when Dave got the job. Even when he got his first win, he got a lot of calls. Those are bonds that players keep forever.
