In the second day of competition, Chris Carter of the USA won a spot in the semifinals in the 400-meter hurdles.
BYU freshman hurdler Carter sprinted into the lead in his heat qualifying him in the 400-meter hurdles. Carter ran the second fastest time of the day (51.49 seconds) and was only nine hundredths of a second behind the leader Kranendonk Marius of the Netherlands.
Carter was an All-American at BYU and finished third at the NCAA National Track Meet. There he finished in a time of 49.19 seconds. Carter will compete in the semifinals on Thursday.
