Cougars Advance at ITA All-America Tournament

PROVO -- Two BYU seniors started their journey towards All-America honors Monday by winning their first round qualifying matches at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

BYU's Dominik Kaufhold was the first to record a win Monday as he knocked off hometown favorite Andy Connelly from the University of Tulsa in three sets, 6-0, 2-6, 6-2. Tomorrow he will face Albert Larregola from Virginia Tech. in the second round of qualifiers.

Kaufhold's teammate and doubles partner James Ludlow is also moving on to the second round after beating Texas A&M's Connor Pollock convincingly, 6-0, 6-7 (4), 6-1.

"Our guys played great tennis today," said BYU head coach Brad Pearce. " I'm really proud of them and am looking forward to watching them in doubles too."

Pearce's protoges, Kaufhold and Ludlow, are slated to play Texas' Dimitar Kutrovsky and Milan Mihailovic tomorrow in addition to their singles matches. BYU's Jonathan Sanchez and Chip Hand will also be teaming up in doubles action to face conference rivals Andrew Ulrich and Stuart Row from TCU as a possible preview of the 2007 winter match-up between the two schools.
