Mountain West Conference Announces Women's Golfer of the Month
BYU's Rachel Newren earns the October honor
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU senior Rachel Newren has been selected the Mountain West Conference Women's Golfer of the Month for October.
Newren, a Salt Lake City native, paced the Cougars with a ninth-place
finish out of 77 golfers at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational on Oct.
9-11. She posted a 54-hole total of eight-over-par 224 on the par 72,
6,130-yard Sahalee Golf and Country Club Course.
Newren's performance helped the Cougars to a ninth place finish in the
Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, which featured five teams ranked in the
top 25 by golfstat.com
The following week, Newren led the Cougars to a second place finish in
the TaylorMade Aztec Fall Classic, carding a two-round score of
five-over-par 149 on the 6,259-yard Salt Creek Golf Course on Oct. 17.
Newren's score of 149 placed her in a tie for 15th in a field of 113
golfers.
Newren has had 23 top-20 appearances throughout her career with the BYU Cougars.
On the season, Newren is second in the MWC with a 72.91 stroke average.
