TUCSON -- After a grueling battle down the stretch, BYU's 19-under-par wasn't enough to beat conference rival UNLV for the title of the PING Arizona Intercollegiate on Tuesday.

Everything came down to the end, when the lead kept changing back and forth as BYU and UNLV jumped out ahead from the rest of the field. The Rebels finished at 23-under-par to win the tournament, BYU just four strokes back in second place. The Cougars' 274 and 277 were the low scores for the last two rounds in the tournament.

"UNLV played exceptionally well today," said Head coach Bruce Brockbank, "Once again we were in contention to win and had a chance, but didn't capitalize."

Clay Ogden was the top Cougar; shooting 70-71-66 to finish tied for eleventh individually. After having two bogies early in the round, Ogden answered back with four birdies in a row and an eagle short after that to get himself back under par and the team close to the lead.

"As a whole the team played well," said Ogden, "it feels good to be playing and back in competition."

All-American Daniel Summerhays finished tied for thirteenth as he eagled his last hole to shoot three-under-par for the day and five-under-par for the tournament.

Senior Jake Ellison was one-shot behind, tied for sixteenth while Robbie Fillmore finished tied for 27th, consistently shooting 71 all three rounds. Nick Becker shot a one-under-par today to finish two-over for the tournament and tied for 34th.

Arizona's Brian Prouty claimed individual medalist honors with a 14-under 199.

The 19th-ranked Cougars finished up ahead of No. 9 Tennessee, No. 11 East Tennessee State and host Arizona. Coach Brockbank was pleased with the team's effort.

"It was tough today," said Brockbank, "To shoot seven-under-par with the way we started the day isn't bad at all. It gives you a little bit of a taste of what we can do as a team."

Next up for the Cougars is the John H. Burns Invitational in Hawaii on Feb. 21-23.
