PROVO, Utah (Feb, 21 2007) -- BYU had 18 men and 18 women featured on the All-MWC Track and Field Indoor Team that was released Tuesday.
"It shows our team's depth," 2007 MWC Men's Co-Coach of the Year Mark Robison said. "More than half our team was All-Conference, and we had almost half the nominations. We had twice as many as any other school. It's great that our kids are recognized for their hard work."
Both Cougar squads had convincing wins at the MWC Indoor Championships, marking the seventh championship in eight years. The women and men each had four individual champions, with both distance medley relays (DMR) placing first at the meet. The women's team set three new MWC Indoor Championship meet records. The men also set a new MWC Indoor meet record. Many of the all-conference athletes will be heading to Notre Dame to take one more shot at qualifying for nationals. The men are taking seven athletes, and the women are taking 10.
"I think it's great," 2006 MWC Women's Coach of the year Craig Poole said of the all-conference list. "It shows we have a good team, but we also have 49 athletes with a GPA of 3.5 or better. We win championships and we perform well in the classroom. "
Of the all-conference selections 17 of them were also honored as 2006 Scholar Athletes.
