PROVO -- At the Stanford Invitational nearly a hundred athletes qualified for regional action in the two-day meet. Distance runners came from all over the US to compete in this premiere distance carnival. BYU had many regional qualifying marks and personal best times at the meet.

"Amy Fowler ran a wonderful race in the steeplechase, a career best time, and will probably have the second best time in the nation," said BYU women's assistant head coach Patrick Shane. "We had four really good times in the 1500 with each one qualifying for regionals. This was a great place to run because it's a really fast track. We have had great success."

Fowler ran the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:05.60. Heidi Magill lead the 1500-meter-qualifying group with a time of 4:23.20 Kassi Andersen came across next with a time of 4:24.84. Julie Meads finished in a time of 4:26.15, and Carlee Clark had a time of 4:26.61. Amber Duffin had a season high mark, as well as a region qualifying time in the 5000 meters despite being tripped and spiked during the race. Whitney McDonald also competed in the 10,000 meters and was six second from an automatic qualifying time for the national meet. Her time of 33:06.23 was good enough to qualify her for the West Regional meet.

The men also performed well at Stanford.

"We qualified four guys yesterday and today. Jason Dorais ran very well and had probably the fifth fastest time of the day. Tyrel Jensen ran very well. Chandler [Goodwin] ran a five second PR. Derek Taylor also had a new PR. Josh McAdams [former BYU steeplechaser] had a great race and now probably has the fifth fastest time in the world. We accomplished what we came to do, which was get our guys qualified for regionals."

Dorais ran a time of 1:49.92 to qualify for regionals. Jensen ran a time of 3:47.20 to punch his ticket to regionals. Goodwin ran the steeple in 8:45.01 while Taylor ran it in 9:02.26, both marks were good enough to get into regionals.
