PROVO -- After a drop in determination and competitive will in Friday's scrimmage, Tuesday's practice featured another scrimmage in which the defense stood out.

Head coach Bronco Mendenhall said the scrimmage today was not due to poor execution Friday, but the amount of determination the players showed in competition.

After Tuesday's scrimmage, Mendenhall was much more pleased with his team's performance. The defense only allowed two field goals on 12 first downs from the offensive squad. The defense also tallied six sacks from five different players, a forced fumble and recovery and an interception.

"The same challenge was issued to both the offense and the defense today," Mendenhall said. "The execution was better Friday, but the heart was better today. The defense took that challenge to heart more today and the offense executed better of Friday."

Bryan Kehl led the defense with two sacks and the forced fumble. David Tafuna added an interception on a Max Hall pass while Corby Hodgkiss tallied five tackles, Kellen Fowler had four and Kelly Bills and Terrance Hooks with three tackles each.

Michael Reed led all receivers with nine catches for 71 yards and Ryan Folsom lead all rushers with 11 carries for 32 yards. The longest pass completion came on a 23-yard completion to Reed from Cade Cooper. Mitch Payne made two of four field goal attempts, one from 28 yards and another from 35.
