USAFA -- The 2007 All-Mountain West Conference Honors were announced Wednesday, highlighting BYU's Craig Manning as Coach of the Year and Anastasia Surkova as Co-Player of the Year.
2007 marks Surkova's first nomination to the all-conference singles first team and her first Player-of-the-Year award. She was also named to the All-MWC doubles team for the second year in a row with partner Jenny Miccoli.
Manning's Coach-of-the-Year award is his third as BYU head women's coach.
"Honestly, I'm just really surprised," Manning said. "I'm glad to see that Surkova won Player of the Year because I think she deserved it. I am also proud of our other girls who won the honors. They really are great."
Senior Lauren Jones earned all-conference recognition for the fourth year in a row in both singles and doubles as well (with Dolly Chang). BYU was the only team to have two doubles teams recognized with all-conference honors.
On the men's side, all three BYU seniors received all-conference recognition. James Ludlow was named to both the All-MWC singles and doubles teams. Chip Hand received all-conference singles honors and Dominik Kaufhold was recognized with Ludlow in doubles.
The MWC Conference Tournament begins Thursday at the Air Force Academy for the Cougars as the No. 1 seed women's team will play Colorado State and the No. 5 seed men's team will face New Mexico in the quarterfinal round.
