COLORADO SPRINGS -- BYU freshman Angeline Quiocho has been named Mountain West Conference Softball Player of the Week.

The honor is the second in three weeks for the Walnut, Calif., native and the third consecutive week that a Cougar has been named as such.

"She's quite an impressive freshman," BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. "She just finds a way to get the job done, and she's got incredible talent."

Quiocho hit .600 and stole four bases throughout the week to give her a team-best 15 stolen bases on the year. She also notched a hit and a run in every game this week, leading the Cougars to a 4-1 record. Against Utah Valley State, Quiocho went a perfect 3-for-3 and had one RBI. With runners at the corners the third baseman, who recorded two stolen bases on the night, perfectly executed a bunt allowing a run to score. She was also on the throwing end of two double-plays against the Wolverines.

In game one against New Mexico, Quiocho gave BYU a two-run lead in the third inning. After stealing third base, Quiocho scored on a sacrifice fly to right field. She also scored the winning run in game two versus the Lobos.

"It's unbelievable," Quiocho said. "It's an honor being on a team like this, and I'm fortunate to be the Player of the Week out of all the great players on my team and in the conference."
