PROVO -- With the start of the 2007 football season less than one month away, fans are gearing up in record numbers to watch the Cougars defend their Mountain West Conference Championship in Edwards Stadium this season. According to the BYU ticket office, more than 35,000 season tickets have been sold as of July 31, marking an increase of nearly 6,100 season tickets from the same date in 2006.

"There is incredible energy among our fans right now," BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe said. "I credit Coach Mendenhall, his staff and his players for re-establishing a commitment to excellence. I'm very excited for the upcoming football season and appreciate the tremendous support from our fans."

According to BYU ticket office manager Clark Livsey, this year's current total is higher than any final season-ticket sales total since 1999. During the 1999 season, a total of 36,756 season tickets were sold.

Livsey added the current total does not include student season-ticket orders, which are expected to be between 17,000 and 18,000. With student season-ticket numbers included, it is expected more than 55,000 season tickets will be sold by the Cougars' season-opener on September 1 against Arizona.

Season tickets packages start at just $96 for endzone seating while sideline bench season tickets are only $180. Fans can order season tickets online at www.byutickets.com or by calling 422-BYU1.
