How have practices been going so far for you?
I started out a little slow but now things are going pretty well.
You actually came to Provo last season; however, right before camp started, you suffered a pretty serious knee injury that kept you sidelined the entire season. How is your knee feeling now?
It feels good to me, but every now and then it is a little shaky. Wearing the brace is pretty uncomfortable.
How did you injure your knee?
We were running one-on-one drills on the field a few days before fall camp and I stepped the wrong way and hyper extended my knee. I tore my ACL, had some fractures and I ripped the muscle behind my kneecap. That was about it. I had surgery in August and I was doing rehab through the spring.
Why did you decide to come to BYU after you had committed to Louisville?
Basically, I had already decided to go to a different school, but I wasn't sure if that was where I really wanted to go. I got an e-mail from my mom when I was on my mission telling me BYU had called the house and wanted to offer me a scholarship. At the time I really didn't want to come to BYU, but my mom told me to pray about it. After a while of avoiding it, I finally prayed about it and I felt like this was where I needed to be. I made the decision, then I came and it has turned out well for me.
What are major differences you have noticed between BYU and Louisville?
For one thing Utah is a lot more relaxed than Louisville is. The school itself is more caring and it is a more family-type atmosphere than at Louisville. Now that I have gotten used to it, I feel more comfortable than I would have at Louisville.
Have you noticed a big difference between the types of players at the two schools?
I only met a couple of the players at Louisville, but I don't have a doubt about a difference between the two. For one thing, a lot of players on the team are members of the church. I probably would have been the only member of the church on the team at Louisville. I think that says a lot about the difference between the different people.
Where did you serve your mission?
I served my mission in Brazil, Sao Paolo East. I got back March of 2006.
What are a few things you learned on your mission that have helped you?
There were two things I learned that have helped me. The first is to be diligent in whatever it is that you might be doing. I think it has helped me a lot during the process of rehab and trying to get back to where I need to be, so I can get out on the field playing football. The second thing I learned was service--to show love for other people.
