PROVO, Utah (Aug. 31) In the first preseason national poll of the year, the BYU women's golf team is ranked 16th by Golf World Magazine.
The Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Poll lists the top 25 women's teams in the country in its College Preview issue.
BYU finished the 2006-07 season ranked 17th, the second best finish in school history. The team also ended the year 5th in the NCAA West Region. Senior Rachel Newren was named MWC Player of the Year and garnered a Second Team All-America citation form the National Golf Coaches Association.
MWC Coach of the Year Sue Nyhus begins her 7th season at the helm of the women's program. Two other MWC schools, TCU and New Mexico, were ranked 21st and 22nd respectively.
The Cougars open up the 2007-08 season at the Ram Fall Classic in Ft. Collins, Colorado on Sept. 10 and 11.
