PROVO -- BYU's Andrea Willis, a sophomore defender from Riverside, Calif., and 2006 Mountain West Conference Co-Freshman of the Year was named to Soccer Buzz's Team of the Week Tuesday.
Willis is a key part of a defense that has only allowed one goal in nine games this season and did not allow a goal in the first eight games. The Cougars lead the nation in goals-against average, shutout percentage, and saves percentage and is in the top ten in won-loss-tied percentage thanks to Willis and the BYU defense.
On average, more than 5,000 players see action in Division 1 women's soccer and are therefore considered for the honor, yet only 18 players make the team. The MWC is the most recognized conference on this week?s team with three selections. This was Willis' first time to receive the honor.
Willis and company will be in action again on Saturday at 7 p.m. at South Stadium against Montana. All BYU parking lots will be available to the public, and ticket prices are $5 for adults and $4 for students.
