LAS -- The BYU women's golf team held onto their 11th-place position during the second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, ending the day 18-over-par 301-306--307 +31.
Natalia Jimenez led the Cougars again, finishing the day 2-over-par and is currently tied for 15th place on the individual leader board. She began the day strong remaining at an even-par during her first 14 holes. A double bogey got her through the sixth hole and left her at 2-over-par, 73-74--147.
"It's a competitive field we are facing and we are working very hard," BYU head coach Sue Nyhus said. "We are working on our short game during our final round of the fall season."
The Cougars are competing in the 54-hole event at Angel Park Golf Club, a par 72, 6,083-yard course. It is the first time the course has hosted the event.
The 18-team field is led by the 6-under-par Denver Pioneers who moved into first after finishing 3-under during the second round. They have a 5-stroke lead over the second-place Arizona.
BYU stands in the middle of the Mountain West Conference teams. The Cougars trail TCU and New Mexico and are followed by UNLV and CSU. New Mexico sits in 10th place and has a nine-stroke advantage over BYU.
The Cougars will try to improve their standing during the final round. It will begin Wednesday at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live stats are available at www.byucougars.com.
