Unga, Jorgensen Named Player-of-the-Week Honors

PROVO -- Helping lead the Cougars to a 48-27 win over San Diego State on Saturday, freshman running back Harvey Unga and sophomore defensive end Jan Jorgensen were named the Mountain West Conference Offensive and Defensive players of the week, respectively.

Unga, a freshman from Provo, Utah ran for 161 yards on 23 carries, averaging 7.0 yards per carry. He totaled a career-high four touchdowns, including three rushing TD's. Unga was also credited with three reception for 29 yards, totaling 190 all-purpose yards in the contest. His 24 points against the Aztecs set the MWC single-game record for scoring by a freshman. The game marked Unga's third straight 100-yard rushing performance and seventh overall this season. Unga has rushed for 1,211 yards in 2007, marking the most yards for a BYU player since Doak Walker Award-winner Luke Staley racked up 1,582 yards during the 2001 campaign. Unga's single-season rushing mark currently ranks fourth all-time in BYU history. He needs just six yards to become the MWC's all-time leading freshman rusher.

Jorgensen, a sophomore from Helper, Utah, finished the game with a team-leading seven tackles, including five solo stops and a sack in the Cougars' 21-point win over SDSU. Jorgensen leads the league with 11.5 sacks on the season. He anchored a defensive unit that held the Aztecs to just 68 yards rushing. Eliminating the 61 yards rushing by quarterback Kevin O'Connell, the BYU defense allowed just seven yards rushing on the night. The game marked the 12th straight time the Cougars have not allowed a 100-yard rusher.
