Nampa, Idaho (Feb. 15, 2008) -- Anna Sperry, Sarah Hansen and Millie Rapp came in first through third, respectively, in the 3000 meters at the Boise State Team Invitational on Friday at the Idaho Sports Center.
Sperry, a freshman from Simi Valley, Calif., ran a time of 10:12.55. Hansen crossed the line in 10:23.19 and Rapp finished in 10:24.09.
"This meet is exactly what we both expected and needed in preparation for the conference meet in two weeks," BYU women's coach Craig Poole said.
Senior Ashley McAllister, from Fair Oaks, Calif., cleared a national provisional mark in the pole vault for the second time this season, vaulting 4.00 meters.
The BYU women's team had multiple athletes qualify for the finals in the sprint events to be held on Saturday, including sophomore Kindy Longmore who qualified in both the 60- and 200-meter races. Longmore ran a 7.88 in the 60 meters and a 25.39 in the 200 meters.
On the men's side, thrower Daniel Lawson and 3000-meter runner Rich Nelson won their respective events.
Lawson, a 6-foot-4 sophomore from Moses Lake, Wash., threw a personal best 16.97 meters in the shot put. Lawson's toss is the second-longest throw in the Mountain West Conference this season.
Nelson, a sophomore from Spokane, Wash., ran an 8:39.13, more than 10 seconds faster than any other competitor in his heat.
"We had some pretty solid performances today," BYU men's coach Mark Robison said. "I'm really proud of our athletes and the way they've competed so far. We just want to make sure we stay healthy so they'll be ready to compete at conference."
Also setting a personal best was Sophomore Kevin Biesinger. He ran the 200-meter dash in 22.16, good enough to reserve a lane in the finals on Saturday.
The men's and women's team will conclude the Boise State Team Invitational on Saturday. Field events start at 10 a.m. with track events beginning at 1 p.m. In addition, a few BYU athletes will be competing at the Husky Classic in Spokane, Wash., in an attempt to notch national qualifying marks.
