Ogden, Utah (Feb. 21, 2008) -- BYU thrower Krystle Forester threw 43 feet 6 inches in the shot put to win the event at the Best Buy Wildcat Indoor Open at Bonneville High School on Thursday.
Forester, a freshman from Newport, Ore., was in seventh place until her final throw.
Freshman Deezbaa Whaley, a Kayenta, Ariz., native took third in the 20-pound weight throw, tossing the weight 53 feet 3 inches.
"The girls competed well in what was just a tune-up for conference," said BYU assistant coach Dick Legas. "I'm confident they'll be ready to compete next week."
Three BYU athletes from the No. 5 men's team will be competing in the Wildcat Indoor Open which will continue on Saturday, Feb. 23, as a final tune-up for the Mountain West Conference Championships on Feb. 29.
Juniors Justin Palmer and Whitney Neves, along with sophomore Nick Herold will be the lone Cougars competing on Saturday. Palmer will double-up on Saturday, competing with Neves in the pole vault and on his own in the 55-meter hurdles. Herold will run in the 55-meter dash.
