Ogden, Utah (Feb. 23, 2008) -- Whitney Neves and Chris Little, part of BYU's No.-5 ranked men's track & field team, tied for first in the pole vault at the Best Buy Wildcat Indoor Open on Saturday, clearing 17-05.50.
Both athletes set national provisional marks, with Little setting a career best.
"Those two (Neves and Little) really jumped well today," BYU coach Mark Robison said. "It looks like we're going to be in pretty good shape when conference comes around next week."
Alan Day and Brad Ellertson were also competing in the pole vault. Day tied for ninth place with a jump of 14-08.00, and Ellertson didn't clear the opening height.
BYU sprinter Nick Herold ran a 6.66 in the 55-meter dash, good enough for ninth place.
The BYU men's and women's track & field teams will be back in action from Thursday, Feb. 28, to Saturday, Mar. 1, at the Mountain West Conference Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo. Both teams are the reigning indoor conference champions.
