PROVO -- The women's and No. 5 men's BYU track & field teams will be competing in Colorado Springs, Colo., for the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships from Thursday to Saturday.
Both the men's and women's teams are the reigning MWC champions. The women have won 12 out of the last 13 indoor conference championships and the men have won 17 out of the last 18.
Thurday's events will include the full women's pentathlon and the beginning of the men's heptathlon, starting at 11 a.m. MT.
Friday will be the qualifying heats for many of the running races, including the finals of the 5000 meters, distance medley relays and various field events.
On Saturday, there will be the final heats of all of the sprints, middle distance and 3000 meters, including various field events.
The following are some BYU athletes to watch for:
Ashley McAllister
McAllister's mark of 13-02.50 (4.03 meters) in the pole vault ranks her as the 17th-best pole vaulter in the nation. That mark positions her as the top pole vaulter in the MWC this season.
Carlee Clark-Platt
Clark-Platt leads the MWC in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.28 and is a part of the BYU distance medley relay team that will be heading to nationals.
Katie Palmer
As just a freshman, Palmer has the second-best 800 meter time in the MWC, 2:10.29. She is also part of the BYU DMR team that will be heading to nationals.
Cecily Lemmon
Lemmon is the top 5,000-meter runner in the MWC, clocking a national provisional time of 16:39.88. She is ranked No. 17 in the nation according to TrackShark.com.
Perry has already set automatic national qualifying marks in the mile (3:59.16) and the 3000 meters (7:51.20). His mile and 3K times rank as the third fastest in the nation this season according to TrackShark.com. He has been awarded the MWC Athlete of the Week honor three times this season.
BYU Men's Pole Vaulters
Bob Low (17-05.50), Chris Little (17-05.50), Whitney Neves (17-05.50) and Matt Weirich (17-05.25) are all in the top 5 in the MWC.
Jensen set a national provisional mark of 1:48.85 in the 800 meters at the Husky Classic and is the No. 1 800-meter runner in the MWC.
Bybee ran a 4:01.22 in the mile at the Husky Classic, good for second place in the MWC behind Perry. TrackShark.com ranks him No. 22 in the nation in the mile.
Bergen is the top high jumper in the MWC with a jump of 6-09.75
Palmer leads the MWC in the heptathlon with 5,312 points and finished 14th in the nation in the decathlon at the 2007 outdoor nationals.
