PROVO -- The BYU women's and men's track and field teams open the outdoor season in Tucson, Ariz., at the Dave Murray/Willie Williams Classic on Friday and Saturday.
The Dave Murray Distance Carnival, consisting of the 400-meter hurdles, 5000 meters, 200-meter dash, 3000-meter steeplechase and the 1500 meters, will start on Friday at 6:45 p.m. MT. The field events will start at 4:30 p.m.
The field events for Saturday's Willie Williams Classic begin at 9 a.m., with the running events starting at noon.
"This week we're just looking to get outside in the sunshine and run on a big track," BYU women's coach Craig Poole said.
This will be the Cougars' first experience on a 400-meter track after successful indoor seasons. The men's team took home the Mountain West Coference crown, with the women's team finishing third.
Most of BYU's top runners on the men's and women's sides will be resting from the indoor conference and national championships.
At last week's indoor national championships in Fayetteville, Ark., seven BYU athletes were named All-Americans.
