ALBUQUERQUE -- After one round at the Mountain West Conference Championships, the BYU women's golf team sits in second place at 15-over-par. The Cougars battled a challenging course and tough weather conditions in the first round, but remain in contention for a top finish.
"Our team is playing well and is poised to push New Mexico for the championship," BYU head coach Sue Nyhus said. "We look forward to the chance to compete again tomorrow."
Junior Natalia Jimenez leads all Cougars and is tied for third place with a score of one-over-par 74. Throughout the day, she shot three birdies--one on the front nine and two on the back. Sophomore Daphne Vines follows Jimenez tied for ninth place at 4-over-par. BYU was the only team to have all five golfers score under 80 in the first round.
