PROVO -- The BYU women's softball team (41-18) will make its fourth-straight NCAA Regional Tournament appearance on Thursday, at the Chapel Hill Regional.
The Cougars will play North Carolina (50-10-1) on Thursday; the time is yet to be announced. Also participating in the Chapel Hill Region is Campbell (41-23) and No. 15 seed Georgia (43-22).
"We are excited for an opportunity to continue playing," BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. "We are also excited to travel to a part of the country we have not played in to face teams we have not played."
The NCAA Regional selection includes 64 teams, 30 automatic bids and 34 at-large bids. This is BYU's second at-large bid, the last time occurring in the 2006 season.
In 2007 the Cougars hosted the Regional at Gail Miller Field and made their furthest post-season appearance in the NCAA Regional Championship game. They fell to Arizona State, 3-6.
The Cougars ended the regular season this year with a second place Mountain West Conference finish.
