Six BYU baseball players were honored as Academic All-Mountain West Conference and a seventh was named as an MWC Scholar-Athlete.
First baseman Kasey Ko (3.07, exercise science), outfielder Sean McNaughton (3.34, open major), relief pitcher Brandon Michon (3.12 , sociology), catcher J.T. Musso (3.32, pre-management), pitcher Blake Torgerson (3.04, undecided major) and outfielder Kent Walton (3.13 , pre-management) were named Academic All-MWC. Relief pitcher/utilityman Kevin Sloan (3.52, physical education/teaching) was the lone Cougar baseball player who qualified as an MWC Scholar-Athlete.
The MWC Scholar-Athlete Award is the highest academic honor bestowed by the Conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
To be eligible for Academic All-MWC, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their respective athletic team.
