PROVO -- Brigham Young University finished the 2007-08 season ranked 41st in the Division I Sports Academy Directors' Cup final standings, racking up a total of 513.25 points.
The Directors' Cup is the only all-sports competition that rates the country's best overall collegiate athletics programs. Points are awarded to each school based on each institution's national finish in up to 20 sports -- 10 women's and 10 men's.
Once again, the Cougars are the top-ranked Mountain West Conference team in the Directors' Cup and are also the highest-ranked school from a non-automatic BCS-qualifying conference. New Mexico was the next highest-rated MWC school at 74th, followed by Utah at 82nd and San Diego State at 84th. UNLV tied at 115th while Air Force, Colorado State and Wyoming finished at 123rd, 133rd and 182nd, respectively.
BYU solidified its ranking following a successful spring season. The No. 27 women's golf team placed 17th at the NCAA West Regional, while the softball team made its fourth-straight NCAA Regional appearance. The men's track and field team clinched its 11th-straight MWC title, while the women's team took second in the conference. Ten athletes went on to compete in the NCAA Track and Field National Championships with three earning All-America honors.
The Directors' Cup is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), United States Sports Academy and USA Today to the best overall collegiate athletics programs in the country in NCAA Divisions I, II, and III and the NAIA.

Gymnastics earned its ninth consecutive NCAA Regional berth and finished the season ranked No. 24 nationally. The women's swimming and diving team claimed both the MWC regular-season and tournament titles and sent diver Tawni Jones to the NCAA Championships where she earned second-team All-America honors.
Both BYU indoor track teams fared well. The men's team took the MWC Championship, and nine athletes competed in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships.
