PROVO -- The 2008 BYU women’s soccer team has been selected in a vote by Mountain West Conference coaches as the favorite to win the MWC championship in 2008.

The Cougars led the voting by winning seven of the eight first-place votes available, and 49 points overall. UNLV, the 2007 MWC champion, garnered one first-place vote and 39 points overall.

In 2007, BYU won the conference tournament championship and earned the conference’s automatic bid the NCAA tournament.

Since camp began August 5, the team has been practicing in preparation for the season. The Blue and White game will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Sat., Aug 16, and admission is free. The game will be held at Haws Field, just west of the Indoor Practice Facility. The first home game of the season against SEC power Georgia kicks off at 7:00 p.m. on Aug. 29, and will be held at South Field.
