PROVO -- The BYU men’s tennis team will begin its fall season this weekend hosting the Utah Fall Tennis Classic. The tournament will include a mix of local athletes, former Cougars and current BYU players.
Returning sophomores Thomas Shubert, Evan Urbina and A.J. Young and junior Cassidy Mears will compete against former teammates as well as future opponents from Boise State, Utah State and Weber State. This tournament will be the first test for BYU’s three new players, Travis Fillmore, Georgy Batrakov and Roman Warias. Also playing is defending champion and BYU head coach Brad Pearce.
Matches begin at 9 a.m. Thursday and Friday and will continue throughout the day. Saturday’s matches will start at 9:45 a.m.
Admission is free and all matches are open to the public. The BYU outdoor tennis courts are located south of the Smith Fieldhouse and can be accessed through the entrance on the east side. Public parking is available only after 4 p.m. in the BYU Y parking lots on Thursday and Friday, but all BYU lots are open to the public Saturday.
The United States Tennis Association sanctions this tournament. Any participating college players are performing as individuals and do not represent their schools. Results will not impact Intercollegiate Tennis Association or NCAA rankings.
