PROVO -- After five event finals on Friday, the BYU men hold third place at the NCAA West Regional Track & Field Championships in Provo. Arizona leads the competition with 44 points, followed by UCLA with 29.5 points and BYU with 21.5 points. The BYU women are in 15th place, while UCLA leads the women's competition with 32.5 points through five events.
Competition resumes on Saturday with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and running events kicking off at 1:30 p.m. (MT).
Women's Long Jump (Trials and Finals)
12:00 p.m. - Freshman Mindy Neeley finished 16th in the long jump, recording a mark of 18' 7". Freshman Rhonda Watkins of UCLA won the event with a meet record 21' 06".

1:30 p.m. -- In the women's javelin, junior Tiffany Arrhenius finished 16th overall with a distance of 142' 07". Freshman Piret Kuresson finished 18th with a mark of 139' 05". Oregon freshman Rachel Yurkovich won the event with a toss of 161' 08".

Men's Pole Vault (Trials and Finals)
2:00 p.m. -- Defending NCAA Outdoor Champion Robison Pratt pulled off a come-from-behind victory in the pole vault. Pratt used all three attempts to clear heights at 5.51 meters to advance to the next height. Runner-up Thomas Skipper of Oregon and Stanford's Graeme Hoste advanced to 5.61 meters using only one attempt. At the final height--5.61 meters (18' 04.75")--Pratt cleared the bar on his third and final attempt, while the other competitors failed to clear the height. BYU's Whitney Neves finished sixth in the event with a height of 17' 01". Sophomore Matt Weirich finished 10th (17' 01"). Freshman Bob Low finished 15th at 16' 07.25".
Men's 4x100-meter Relay (Qualifying)
2:15 p.m. -- In the men's 4x100-meter relay, the BYU team of Paul Smith, Ben Gardner, Cody Fonnesbeck and Nate Soelberg failed to finish the race after missing the final baton exchange. USC advanced to Saturday's final with the top qualifying time of 39.68.

2:45 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. -- Sophomore Jacob Gustafsson turned in the top 1,500-meter time for the Cougars, finishing second in the opening heat with a time of 3:51.22. Arzona's Robert Cheseret won the first heat and will advance to Saturday's final with a time of 3:50.06. Three other Cougars qualified for Saturday's final, including freshman Miles Batty (3:54.06), Freshman Kyle Perry (3:55.58) and Sophomore Dustin Bybee (3:55.85). Perry won the second heat.

3:00 p.m. -- Senior Matt Anderson finished 15th in the long jump, posting a mark of 23' 03.25". UCLA sophomore Joel Tuosto won the event with a distance of 25' 06.75".
Men's 110-meter Hurdles (Qualifying)
3:15 p.m. -- Junior Jake Garlick qualified with the eighth-best time in the qualifying round, finishing the event in 14.20. Oregon Senior Eric Mitchum advanced to Saturday's final with the top qualifying time of 13.67. BYU junior Nate Rencher finished 13th overall with a time of 14.31.
Women's 800 meters (Qualifying)
3:30 p.m. -- Two weeks after winning the MWC 800-meter title with a personal-best 2:08.65, BYU sophomore Michelle Lindsay turned in another personal record to advance to Saturday's finals in the 800 meters. Lindsay finished third in the second heat on Friday, turning in a time of 2:08.41. Sophomore Challisls Firl finished ninth overall with a time of 2:09.90. Stanford junior Ashley Freeman advanced to Saturday's final with the top time in Friday's qualifying, posting a 2:07.69.
Men's Discus (Trials and Finals)
4:00 p.m. -- Junior Niklas Arrhenius recorded a mark of 195' 11" in the discus to finish second behind Arizona senior Sean Shields. Shields won the event with a distance of 196' 03". Arrhenius edged Arizona's Adam Kuehl by two inches. Kuehl entered today's competition as the top-ranked discus thrower in the country.
Women's 400-meter Hurdles (Qualifying)
4:40 p.m. -- Sophomore Nicole Nevitt advanced to Saturday's finals in the 400-meter hurdles after running a time 1:01.27. Nevitt had the seventh fastest qualifying time, finishing fourth in the third heat. UCLA freshman Nicole Leach turned in the fastest qualifying time, finishing the race in 58.16.

4:55 p.m. --Chris Carter continued his impressive freshman campaign, turning in the top 400-meter hurdle qualifying time on Friday. Carter cruised through the finish line with a time of 50.44. Junior Nate Rencher also qualified for Saturday's final, running 51.11. Junior Jake Garlick also qualified, running a 51.64. Ben Gardner finished 12th overall with a time of 51.85.
