Following the second year in the program’s history with walk-on talent, the BYU Women’s softball team will hold walk-on tryouts Sept. 18 at 3 p.m. at Gail Miller Field.
Any BYU students interested in competing for a spot on the 20-player roster are encouraged to attend. Students are asked to have a complete doctor’s physical indicating they are physically able to play prior to the tryout.
“Coming off a strong year with our program we hope to have another competitive season,” BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. “We want to give those who feel they have been overlooked in the recruiting process an opportunity to compete for chance to join the roster.”
Those who would like to tryout are asked to contact the coaching staff for more information, either by stopping by the softball office in Miller Park or by e-mail at gordon_eakin@byu.edu.
In 2008 Cougar Erin Olander joined the team following walk-on tryouts. Olander appeared in 16 games during the 2008 season, batting .182.
The Cougars head into the fall season following their eighth-consecutive winning season. The 42-18 team finished second in the Mountain West Conference, just behind San Diego State. While enjoying yet another year of success, BYU made its four-straight NCAA Regional Appearance.
