PROVO -- Brigham Young University and the NCAA announced today BYU will host the 2009 NCAA Men’s Volleyball Championship in the Smith Fieldhouse May 7-9, 2009. Both semifinal matches will be played on Thursday, May 7, with the national championship match held on Saturday, May 9.

“It gives us great pleasure to have the visiting teams and members of the NCAA on our campus,” said BYU Athletic Director Tom Holmoe. “The Smith Fieldhouse is a great venue for volleyball and the national championships. We are grateful to have great support from our state and local community.”

Following Holmoe's remarks, Brian Summers, Chairman of the NCAA Volleyball Committee, addressed the media.

“On behalf of the committee I’d like to express our excitement for our host BYU.” he said. “This is a spectacular city with a unique setting for student athletes to enjoy. All of the components of an excellent host site are in place here.”

Representing the City of Provo was Mayor Lewis Billings who expressed his excitement for the upcoming championship and the historic value of the Smith Fieldhouse.

“There are so many incredible memories that are tied to this place and our team is anxious to engage with the BYU team to make this an amazing experience,” he said. “There is not a place better than Brigham Young University. Provo is pleased to lend its enthusiastic support to this championship.”
