LAS -- Under a warm Vegas sun, freshman Maggie Yuan led the BYU women’s golf team at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown to a 15th-place first round finish at +6 294 in a tough field with several ranked teams.

In just her fourth start as a Cougar, the Sachuan, China and Queensland, Australia native finished with a 1-under-par 71 first round score to end in a tie for No. 17 individually in a field of 92 golfers. She made five birdies on the day with just one bogey.

Senior team captain Natalia Jimenez is holding on to a tie for the No. 36 spot as she ended the round at +1 73. She made an impressive eagle shot on hole 10 and birdied hole three, finishing with four bogeys on the day.

Junior Shayla Forsey and sophomore Jade Bollinger had strong finishes as both tied for the No. 60 spot at +3 75. Junior Camille Gardner is making her second start of the fall season and finished at +5 77.

The field features ranked teams Louisville (16), Pepperdine (19), Oklahoma State (5), Long Beach State (47), Washington (38), Texas (44), and TCU (39).
