Senior Dan Vargas won the annual BYU baseball team run on Y Mountain the end of October for his third year in a row.

Vargas, a shortstop/second baseman from San Diego, completed the 11-switchback run in 14:33. Coming in second place was freshman infielder Adam Law in 14:38, followed by sophomore utilityman Dane Nielsen in 15:11. Placing fourth was junior infielder Andrew Law in 15:37, followed by pitcher Shawn Hardesty in 15:56.

Once atop the "Y", the team sang the Cougar Fight Song and heard a pep talk from BYU coach Vance Law.

“Our 5th Annual Run to the Y was very successful," said Coach Law. "It is both feared and anticipated by our players and I know they are glad it is over. We believe that it builds team unity and mental toughness as well as the physical toughness it takes to complete.

"The times of our top finishers are admirable and show great conditioning and toughness. A reasonable time for a hiker is 25 to 30 minutes so for someone to run it in 14 and a half minutes is pretty incredible. I’m proud of all my guys for the effort they put forth.”
