PROVO -- The Mountain West Conference named senior defender Jessica Carter the defensive player of the week for her performance in BYU's 1-0 wins over Weber State and Wyoming.
Carter played a key role in limiting Weber State and Wyoming to zero goals and four and nine shots, respectively. Carter scored the Cougars’ only goal in their win over Wyoming in the 79th minute, preserving the team’s winning streaks and their undefeated MWC record. Carter helped limit Weber State, the Big Sky regular season champion, to its second-lowest shot total of the 2008 season.
Carter’s consistent defense helped the Cougars contain both teams, and her standout individual play put her in a position to score, help her team offensively, and seal the win at Wyoming.
Carter and the No. 1 seed Cougars face off against the winner of Wednesday's match between No. 4 New Mexico No. 5 UNLV. BYU's game will start at 3:00 p.m. and be broadcast live on the mtn. Live stats will also be available at http://themwc.cstv.com/champ/soccer-champ-2008.html.
