PROVO, Utah – (Jan. 6, 2009) The first indoor event of the season for the BYU men’s and women’s track teams begins this Friday at the annual BYU Invitational in the Smith Fieldhouse.
“We have a really good team and I’m excited to begin the season,” said BYU women’s head track coach Craig Poole. “This event gives our athletes an opportunity to establish themselves and see where we stand as a team. “
After a successful 2008 campaign, both the men’s and women’s track teams are excited to start the season at home and test their off-season training. Along with the Cougars the event will showcase athletes from Southern Utah, Utah Valley and Weber State.
“I’m excited for this first meet,” said BYU men’s head track coach Mark Robison. “It’s a small meet and a great way to start off the year. It will be a good chance to see where each of the athletes are early in the season.”
The invitational will start Friday at noon MST with the women’s pentathlon and end at 5 p.m. with the women's shot put. The meet will continue into Saturday with the men’s heptathlon beginning at 10 a.m. and will conclude with the men’s and women’s 4x1 lap relay.
