PROVO -- 2008 MWC Defensive Player of the Year Andrea Willis has been named to the NSCAA Academic All-America Second Team for 2008.
The academic All-American selection was the first for Willis, who has been frequently recognized for her strong play and leadership on the field for the 2008 MWC Regular Season and Tournament Champion BYU women's soccer team.
An exercise science major, Willis was selected based on her success and hard work in the classroom.
A key member of the Cougar defense, Willis had two goals and one assist during the 2008 season. BYU defenders allowed only 18 goals all season, and allowed only one goal during MWC play.
Willis is the only player selected from the Mountain West Conference.
The Scholar All-America selections are invited to be recognized at the annual All-America Luncheon, to be held in St. Louis, Mo., on Saturday, Jan. 17, as part of the 2009 NSCAA Convention
