Junior BYU outfielder Sean McNaughton added more distinctions to his credentials as he recuperates from last month’s knee surgery.

McNaughton, who was named the Cameron Tuckett Award winner for 2008 in the BYU program, was recently selected to the Wallace Watch List.

Joining McNaughton from the Mountain West Conference on the Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Watch List , as announced by the College Baseball Foundation, are New Mexico's Brian Cavazos-Galvez and Rafael Neda, San Diego State's Stephen Strasburg, and TCU's Ben Carruthers, Bryan Holaday and Tyler Lockwood.

The Cougar captains for the 2009 season are juniors Jonathan Cluff, an outfielder; Blake Torgerson, a pitcher, and seniors J.T. Musso, a catcher, and Jake Wortham, a left-handed pitcher. The previous two seasons BYU did not have capains for its baseball teams.

In other related baseball news, coach Vance Law will take part in the annual weekend seminar for Major League Baseball in Washington, D.C., for his 17th year. Law assists in the annual Rookie Career Development Program which lasts two and a half days. Law, who also played 14 years of professional baseball with six different teams, is one of a couple former Major Leaguers who helped instruct the prospects.

While Law is gone, BYU’s baseball team will not work out from Friday through Monday. Official full team practices are scheduled to start on Feb. 2 and the season begins play on Feb. 20.

At the end of this month Law will be attending the 20th Annual "Going to Bat for B.A.T. Fundraising Dinner" in New York City.

This will be the third time Coach Law has been to this event, previously attending in 2008 and 2006. His brother Varlin was a recipient of help with his cancer from B.A.T.
