PROVO -- Starting its season off in winning fashion, the BYU women's softball team won all three games in the Utah Valley Fall Invite.

The Cougars defeated Snow College 8-3, Southern Idaho 11-0, and SLCC 13-0 last weekend.

"We had a slow start to the weekend and we came out a little sluggish in the first three innings against Snow College," BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. "Once the excitement of playing settled down we played very well considering we have only been practicing for a little over one week."

After watching the team play, the BYU coaching staff felt confident in its team, and excited for what the team will produce this upcoming season.

"Our offense looks strong and I think our pitching will give this team a chance to not only be in every game but allow our offense to have an off day once in a while and still win," Eakin said. "Although we still have a long way to go, this team definitely shows promise, and I look forward to coaching them."

Now with only a short two-week break, the Cougars prepare for the BYU/UVU Tournament which begins Friday Oct. 9, and goes through the night of the 10th. All tournament games are free to the public. (See Upcoming tournament schedule below)
