Quiocho Receives Conference Honor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – BYU senior third baseman Angeline Quiocho has been named the Mountain West Conference Softball Player earning the Cougars their first conference honor.

"Angie is in a groove right now and is turning out to be a great offensive and defensive force for us," BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. "She is powerful, quick on her feet

Quiocho, from Walnut, Calif., batted .714 (10-for-14) with three home runs, one double, 10 RBI and nine runs scored, as the Cougars went 5-0 at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, Texas.

In a 5-3 upset win vs. then-No. 19/23 Texas A&M, Quiocho went 3-for-3 with a homer, one double, two RBI and two runs scored. She followed with a 1-for-3 performance in a 17-0 rout of Monmouth, knocking in two runs and scoring two runs of her own.

In BYU’s second straight won over the No. 19/23-ranked Aggies, Quiocho went 1-for-2, then followed with a 3-for-3, three RBI and three run scored effort in a 9-6 win over Monmouth.

In the final game of the tournament, Quiocho went 2-for-3 with another homer, three RBI and two runs scored vs. Northern Colorado. Defensively, she had seven putouts and five assist with no errors over the five games from her third base position.

To date, Quiocho leads BYU several categories from batting average, .517, to on-base percentage, .522. She leads with 30 hits including eight doubles, five home runs and 19 RBI.

The Cougars start their Arizona State Tournament today as they play their first doubleheader in Tempe, Arizona against Nebraska at 2:30 p.m., and No. 10 Arizona State at 5 p.m.
