PROVO -- BYU senior forward Kassidy Shumway has received the first Mountain West Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week nomination, as announced earlier by the conference.
Shumway's nomination comes following BYU's 2-0 victory in its season opener against Long Beach State.
Shumway, a native of Bountiful, Utah, scored the Cougars’ first goal of the season and later tallied an assist in Friday’s game to help propel No. 14 BYU to its road win.
Following a scoreless first half, Shumway gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead by recording a header goal two minutes into the second half of play. In the 53rd minute, Shumway notched her first assist of the 2010 campaign, making a lead pass to teammate Carlee Payne, who scored on a breakaway goal.
The Cougars received seven nominations for Player of the Week last season, more than any other conference opponent, with Shumway being nominated twice.
