Day 1 Recap

LAS VEGAS –The BYU women’s golf team finished ninth overall at the UNLV Rebel Invitational after finishing its final round on Tuesday.

While the Cougars finished ninth overall, their final round of 25-over was the sixth best of the day.

“We started off really well,” BYU coach Carrie Roberts said. “The team really focused and hit some great shots.”

Overcoming a rough start to the tournament, each golfer bore down and gave their best effort. Not only did they make nice shots, but each golfer either improved their individual place from day one or improved on their score.

Captain Maggie Yuan led the charge moving from 17th place yesterday to finishing 16th overall. Annika Afoa made a similar jump, moving from 29th to 28th place overall. However, it was Amanda Keith who made the greatest leap, going from 53rd yesterday to 44th in the final standings.

“Amanda had some really nice shots,” Roberts said. “It was great to see her improve on her first two rounds.”

The Cougars will be in Tarzana, California on March 5 for the Bruin Wave Invitational.
