PROVO, Utah – Two home runs from Ashley Thompson led BYU softball to a 7-3 win over the Washington Huskies in the first fall scrimmage on Thursday afternoon at Gail Miller Field.
“We played well in all three areas of the game: pitching, defense and hitting,” BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. “Our offense looked strong today.”
Thompson, a junior first baseman from Connell, Washington, hit two home runs to lead the Cougars in the scrimmage. Last season, Thompson hit 11 home runs and currently has 17 in her career.
The Cougars split up the pitching in this game. McKenna Bull took the circle for four innings, allowing two runs. Arianna Paulson did not allow a run in two innings pitched. The last pitcher, freshman Olivia Sanchez, closed out the game in the last frame, giving up one run.
BYU’s next fall scrimmage is on Friday Oct. 2 at 4 p.m. MDT against the College of Southern Idaho. The game will be played at Gail Miller Field and is open to the public.
