Fishburn finishes in top-20 after 34 holes of play, team in 13th

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. — After 36 holes of play on Monday, sophomore Patrick Fishburn is tied for 16th place individually, while BYU men's golf sits in 13th place at the Southwestern Jones Invitational.

"We are very inconsistent," BYU Director of Golf Todd Miller said. "We have stretches where we play solid golf, but then we make some big numbers, which kills our momentum. The guys know they have to improve their short game and eliminate the big mistakes."

Finishing the first day in the top 20, Fishburn shot one-over-par through the two rounds of play. Through the first round of 18, he shot three-under-par, birdying five holes. Fishburn shot four-over-par in Round 2, birdying the 16th hole. He also eagled the par-5 12th hole.

Freshman Spencer Dunaway is currently tied for 51st place individually. Dunaway birdied two holes in the first round of play and eagled the par-5 15th hole. In the second round, Dunaway shot one-over-par and birdied four holes. He sits at nine-over-par through 36 holes of play.  

Austen Christiansen and CJ Lee both finished the day at 10-over-par. They are tied for 54th place after today's two rounds of play. Christiansen shot four-over-par in the first round of the day, and finished shooting a 78. Lee shot a pair of 77's. Kaimakani Ruiz shot 13-over-par in today's 36 holes and is tied for 69th place overall.

As a team, the Cougars shot 29-over-par in today's two rounds. BYU shot +14 and +15 in the first and second round, respectively. The Cougars sit in 13th place, and West Coast Conference foe San Diego sits four-strokes behind in 14th place. No. 42 Pepperdine is in second place at 11-under-par, while No. 6 USC leads the tournament at 24-under-par.

BYU men's golf will play the final round of the Southwestern Jones Invitational on Tuesday. Groups will begin teeing off at 7:30 a.m. PST. The event can be followed live.
