Albuquerque, N.M. – The BYU women's tennis team travels to Albuquerque this week for the 2016 USTA/ITA Mountain Regional Championships hosted at the University of New Mexico campus, Oct. 12-16.

"Regionals is our biggest tournament of the fall and we're hoping to be able to play our best tennis," BYU head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. "A big focus for us will be having lots of energy and starting the points off well with our serves and returns."

The Cougars are led by seniors Mayci Jones, Natella Nabieva, Demi Perkinson and Savannah Ware. Also competing for BYU are sophomore Taylah Beckman and freshmen Kate Cusick, Polina Malykh and Samantha Smith

Players from 16 other schools in the Mountain Region will be competing in the tournament including Air Force, Boise State, Colorado, Denver, Montana State, Nevada, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, UNLV, Utah, Utah State, UTEP, Weber State and Wyoming.

The tournament will be the Cougars' third of four scheduled preseason tournaments. BYU has already competed in the BYU Invitational and the Cal Nike Invite and will also travel to the Jack Kramer Tennis Invite in Palos Verde, California, on Nov. 3-6.

Matches will be played at the McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium, the Linda Estes Tennis Club and the LETC Indoor Bubble. Doubles play will begin each day at 9 a.m. MDT with singles starting at 11 a.m.
