PROVO, Utah – Shannon Hortman Evans was named one of three Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Beam Specialists of the Week for the fifth week of conference awards.
“After taking last week off of the all-around, Shannon came back stronger than ever,” head coach Guard Young said. “She gave a solid performance all the way around. She’s going to be so much fun to watch this season.”
In one of the Cougars’ strongest performances of the season, Evans matched her career-high score on bars with a 9.875. Evans also broke her personal record in the all-around, earning a 39.400. She also received a 9.875 on floor, one of the highest scores of the night for BYU.
"Everyone worked so hard in the gym during the offseason, and our hard work is paying off bit by bit," Evans said. "Competing with my teammates by my side makes all the difference. We’re just hungry for more."
Despite the loss to Southern Utah, the Cougars matched their season-high overall score with a 196.450 and set a new season record on vault with a 49.025. BYU also earned the highest beam score since 2005, with the fifth highest beam score in program history at 49.325.
