BYU softball signs five new recruits for 2019

PROVO, Utah – BYU head coach Gordon Eakin announced the signing of five recruits to join the softball team in the fall of 2019.

Megan Delgadillo (OF), Carley Brown (P), Kaylee Erickson (C/INF), Ally Oyanguren (OF) and Huntyr Ava (1B) have all signed National Letters of Intent with BYU. The 2019 recruiting class is ranked No. 20 by Flo Softball.

Interesting Fact: Nickname is Cheese

Coach Eakin on Megan: “Megan is a born leader on the field. She possesses incredible softball instincts and knows how to play this game. She can take advantage of the defense with the bunt, slap or hit it out of the park. She plays this game with great passion and will be a dream to coach. Megan will make an immediate impact in our program.”

Huntyr Ava

5-9 | R/R | 1B | West HS | Salt Lake City, UT

Travel Team: California Cruisers 18G Seviers

  • Utah 5A softball MVP for the 2016-2017 season
  • Holds the record for the most home runs at West High School
  • 2018 Utah 5A all-state team
  • Had a .714 batting average with four home runs, 11 RBI and a .765 OBP in2018
  • All-Tribune softball team 2017
  • Single season record in 2016 in HR and RBI

Interesting Fact: loves to watch movies specifically chick-flicks.

Coach Eakin on Huntyr: “Huntyr is a game changer offensively. She has great power and embraces the pressure situation. She is a winner and someone I want to go to battle with. Huntyr plays travel ball at the highest level and has produced repeatedly in clutch situations. When the games on the line, you want Huntyr at the plate. She is an excellent athlete and plays a very good first base. Huntyr will make an immediate impact in our program.”

Interesting Fact: Three year letterwinner in basketball

Coach Eakin on Carley: “Carley will bring talent and toughness to our pitching staff. She is a true pitcher not a thrower. She throws hard, makes the ball move and hits her spots. In travel ball, Carley has pitched against the best hitters in the country every weekend and has been very successful. She is a great addition to our staff.”

Coach Meredith on Carley: “I’m very excited about having Carley Brown join this team. She is a hard throwing pitcher that will make an impact her first season. She has played in a very competitive high school conference and competing at the highest travel ball level which will make her adjustment to the college level a smooth transition. We are very excited about her role and what she brings to BYU starting next year.” 

Kaylee Erickson

5-9 | R/R | C/INF | Sandra Day O’Conner HS | Phoenix, AZ

Travel Team: Arizona Firecrackers 18G

Accomplishments:

  • Voted First Team All-Desert Valley Region Catcher as sophomore and junior
  • Played varsity all four years at Sandra Day O'Conner HS
  • Had a .449 batting average, .527 OPS, 35 hits, 11 home runs and 41 RBI during the 2017-18 softball season for O'Connor high school
  • Older sister Emilee Erickson currently plays on the team and older brother played baseball at BYU from 2012-2015

Interesting fact: Pitched and caught in the same game

Coach Eakin on Kaylee: “Kaylee is an extremely talented softball player. She is a power threat offensively and can flat out hit the ball. Kaylee has played travel ball at the highest level with great success and we are very impressed with her skill level behind the plate. As a catcher she frames the pitches well, has a cannon for an arm and works very well with the pitcher. She has great leadership skills. We think Kaylee will make an immediate impact in our program.”

Ally Oyanguren

5-8 | R/R | OF | Johnson HS | San Antonio, TX

Travel Team: Texas Blaze Bonola

  • Beyond the Yard Squad Player of the Week in May 2016 as a freshman on varsity
  • Lettered in softball every year
  • Led select team in home runs and runs scored for the entire 2016 season
  • Johnson High School team was undefeated district champions nine years in a row including the three years she was on the team
  • 2017 Scout Softball All-American and all-tournament team
  • Helped 18U Texas Blaze Bonola to a fifth place finish at World Fastpitch Championship as well as a return trip to the PGF Premier Nationals
  • Had highest team batting average of .392 and zero defensive errors in the outfield against some of the top teams in the country
  • Lettered in basketball her junior year and had the highest free throw percentage on the team

Interesting Fact: Mom is a BYU alumni and her nickname is Ally O

Coach Eakin on Ally: “Ally is a great athlete. She is a hard-nosed player that isn’t afraid to get dirty. She has power offensively and when she gets on a roll she’s a very dangerous hitter. She plays all out in the outfield and uses her toughness to go get the ball. Ally is very competitive and will out work her opponent to find success. She is a coach’s type of player. We are excited for Ally to join our team.”
