HENDERSON, Nev. – Ashley Godfrey hit a two-run walk-off homer to help the BYU softball team beat Georgetown 3-1, splitting the doubleheader after losing to UC Davis 4-2 earlier at the Boyd Gaming Rebel Tournament.

“We didn’t play great softball today, but we fought through adverse conditions,” BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. “We battled it out and got the split.”

After rain canceled the first two games of the tournament, the Cougars (2-4, 0-0 WCC) began their first day of the Boyd Gaming Rebel Classic with a loss to UC Davis (4-1, 0-0 Big West) followed by a game that came down to the wire against Georgetown (1-5, 0-0 Big East).

Emilee Erickson went 2 for 3 against the Aggies, tallying her second homer of the season and one RBI. In her first career start, Morgan Bevell went 2 for 3 and scored a run against Georgetown. Arissa Paulson and Autumn Moffat both pitched complete games, recording nine and six strikeouts, respectively.

Game 1

UC Davis took the first lead of the game with an RBI single to left field to make the score 1-0 after the first inning. BYU answered back in the top of the second as Erickson hit one over the fence to even the score at 1-1.

In the bottom of the third, the Aggies tacked on two more runs again taking the lead 3-1. BYU added one more run in the top of the six as Lexi Tarrow tallied an RBI scoring Taylei Williams cutting the deficit to 4-2.

But, the Cougars were unable to score in the top of the seventh and UC Davis took the win 4-2.

Game 2

In the bottom of the seventh inning with the score tied at 1-1 and the Cougars up to bat, Erickson fouled out, followed by Bevell who drew a walk and Allie Hancock who struck out. With Godfrey at the plate, she crushed a ball over the fence for a two-run walk-off home run to give the Cougars the win 3-1.

BYU scored its only other run when Alyssa Podhurcak reached first base on an error, scoring Tarrow in the bottom of the third inning.

The Hoyas kept the game alive in the top of the sixth with an RBI single, tying the score at 1-1. But, the Cougars took the walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh making the final score 3-1.

BYU plays its final games of the tournament Saturday, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. PT against UTEP followed by the make-up game against Fordham at 1:30 p.m. PT. Both games will be played at the Stephanie Lynn Craig Park in Henderson, Nevada.
