PROVO, Utah – The BYU women's soccer team tied the Argentina Women's National Team 1-1 Thursday night at South Field.
"It was just an honor to host a team like this," BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. "I thought we competed really well and there are a lot of takeaways from this game as we try to get better for the fall. What better way to prepare than a game like this with the environment. I am just excited for our girls and we are cheering for Argentina now."
In a physical match, Argentina managed to find the back of the net in the first half after a long cross into the box by Eliana Stabile found the head of Mariana Larroquette in the 35th minute.
Ashton Brockbank started the second half and made an immediate impact on the game. In the 52nd minute, Elise Flake controlled the ball at the endline and managed to play the ball to an open Brockbank near the top of the 18-yard box as the midfielder blasted the equalizer into the back of the net.
Goalkeepers Sabrina Davis and Cassidy Smith split time between the posts, each recording three saves.
On the game, Argentina managed to put off 16 shots, including eight on frame while BYU recorded 13 shots and three on goal.
Argentina's visit to the United States is in preparation for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup which will be held this summer in France.
