PULLMAN, Wash. — Carson Lundell tied for first to put BYU men’s golf in fourth place after the first day of competition at the Pullman NCAA Regional.
"It was a great round today by Carson Lundell. He kept us in the game," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "We played very well today for the most part. It was a good, solid start for round one."
Lundell shot a 64 (-6) in the first round to tie with Texas A&M’s Chandler Phillips and Oklahoma’s Garett Reband for first place. Peter Kuest and Rhett Rasmussen both shot 69 (-1) to tie for 23rd and help BYU to fourth place as a team behind Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Georgia Tech. Kelton Hirsch and Brock Stanger rounded out the competitors for BYU, placing 38th and 58th with rounds of 70 (E) and 72 (+2), respectively.
The top five teams at the end of three rounds advance to nationals, along with the top individual not from those teams. The second round will be played tomorrow, with live stats and the leaderboard found on Golfstat.
