PROVO, Utah – After winning back-to-back home meets in the Smith Fieldhouse, BYU hits the road to face No. 5 Denver in Hamilton Gymnasium in Denver, Colorado, on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 6 p.m. MST.

Since 2000, BYU and DU have faced 11 times. Of these 11 matchups, the Cougars came out on top only twice. 

Most recently, in February 2018, the teams competed in a quad meet on DU’s home turf. The Pioneers took first (196.750), whereas the Cougars took third (194.875).

THE COUGARS. For the second time this season, BYU topped current MRGC champion, Boise State. On Saturday, the Cougars earned a 196.350 at home, their fourth-consecutive score above a 196.000. Freshman Elease Rollins made her beam debut, earning a 9.875. Additionally, senior Shannon Evans earned MRGC Gymnast of the Week for the second week in a row, achieving a 39.550 in the all-around competition. The All-American also earned MRGC Co-Vault Specialist and Co-Bars Specialist honors.

THE PIONEERS. On Feb. 16, Denver topped George Washington, 197.425-194.900. This score is not only the team’s highest tally of the year, but it increased the team’s average to 197.054. This marks the first time in program history the Pioneers have achieved this high of an average. One gymnast to watch is sophomore Alexis Vasquez, who recorded her second perfect 10.0 on beam against George Washington. This score helped the Pioneers earn a program-high beam score of 49.650. In addition, she is the third DU gymnast to earn multiple perfect scores in a season.
